This course covers OSHA Standards, policies, and procedures in general industry. Topics include scope and application of the OSHA General Industry Standards, general industry principles and special emphasis on those areas in general industry which are most hazardous. Upon course completion students will have the ability to define general industry terms found in the OSHA General Industry Standards, identify hazards which occur in general industry, locate and determine appropriate OSHA General Industry Standards, policies, and procedures, and describe the use of OSHA General Industry Standards and regulations to supplement an ongoing safety and health program.

John Young
John Young is a trainer and consultant for the North Dakota Safety Council (NDSC). Prior to coming to work for the NDSC John spent 20 years with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a Compliance Safety and Health Officer (CSHO) and then the Assistant Area Director based in the Bismarck Area Office. During his 20 years with OSHA conducting and reviewing investigations and inspections his primary focus areas were in general industry, construction, and oil and gas activities. Prior to coming to work for OSHA John spent over eight years in private industry working in safety in manufacturing environments from coordinator through corporate manager with responsibility for multiple manufacturing plants. He has a Master of Science in Industrial Management from the College of Engineering at South Dakota State University and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle Pennsylvania.John holds professional certifications from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) CSP, OHST, CHST, CIT, and the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM) CHMM.
