Safety Management: Understanding Human Error

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The objective of this course is to build a working knowledge of human error and how effective safety practices can anticipate and minimize or eliminate the often catastrophic safety consequences that human error produces. The course stresses that excellence in reducing the negative safety impacts of human error is not easy in the complex world of safety management, processes and systems or is it driven by regulatory urgency. With this knowledge and new thinking, you can enhance any environmental, safety and health program and move your organization toward success. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Understand what human error is, and more importantly, what it is not
• How you can reject common hindsight to see human error as an
opportunity for success
• How you can shift your thinking from human error to it’s causes
• How you can use incidents to identify human error and use that new
perspective for creating effective safety management techniques
• How you can reject the concepts of “quick fix” and focus on lasting
solutions
• How you can think differently about each person’s responsibility
• How you can use a “New View” for improving your safety department
• Be more successful in the future with these learned concepts
