Real-Time (Direct Reading) Instruments in Industrial Hygiene
This short course is targeted towards industrial hygiene and safety professionals who use or may be called on to use field-portable exposure assessment instruments and tools, or professionals who need to understand data produced by such tools. Exposure assessment tools that provide information in real-time, or near real-time range from simple, to complex and costly, and each type can play a role as part of a comprehensive exposure evaluation. Every practicing industrial hygiene or safety professional should understand the corresponding capabilities and limitations, as the health and safety of workers we support can be greatly affected by their proper or improper use. Capabilities and limitations of widely used direct reading instruments and systems that provide data in near real time will be covered. Case studies presented will demonstrate how such tools have been used to answer important human exposure questions, as well as cases where improper use led to poor outcomes. There are no scheduled sessions at this time.
